Writing A Novel

Brother Theophyle is typing on the computer. There is an open book on the desk, next to the monitor. “I am working on a novel,” he says, “It is set in Russia, around the time of Napoleon's invasion. The story is about several aristrocratic families, their parties, their properties, their marriages, their loves, their military service; all their inner and outer struggles. Cool, huh?”

Rabbit replies, “Yes, cool. Except it sounds a lot like Leo Tolstoy's 'War and Peace'.”

In the next panel, Theo responds, “Exactly. I'm copying it. This way, all the hard work has already been done. The only problem is the length. Tolstoy wrote nearly fifteen hundred pages. Who's got time to retype all that? So, I'm going to end my book after the first three hundred pages.”

A chickadee to the side chimes in, “Good thinking. Then, if it's well received, there'll be lots of material left over for a sequel.”
