I just thought of another thing I was taught. That to start approaching Truth, you have to first become comfortable with doubt. I think the philosopher CS Peirce wrote of this. When I started looking at this, I realized how uncomfortable sitting is doubt is. I think religion is our escape from this ...

Orthodox Christians are followers not so much of Jesus as of Paul I sat in Biblical courses and thought this exact thought and kept waiting for the professor to address it, the group of Christians in class to address it or the philo students to. No one did, and I thought what is wrong with this pic...

Someone that used to be very important to me always signed with different sayings from different religious disciplines and I find it very comforting to read these at the end of your posts, Art. One of her favorites was Charin Echo. I haven't seen this for so long, it is comforting just to see it typ...

Death is the opposite of birth, not life. How have I missed this? I think you so correct on this one and wow, what a difference this makes. I also have never heard of the light bulb and electricity example before but it is a great way to look at Life. It kind of fits with thinking of God as a Force...

Stephan---I've read the passages from your website that you talk of. I guess I'm looking at it a little differently still. I'm thinking of a discussion I was in once about whether the human mind can even understand what Infinite is. The only way I can is by thinking of numbers that keep going foreve...

I agree greatly with both of you Art and Stephen with the idea that Joy is above happy/unhappy...it is not of the dualistic world. This is where I have had trouble since first reading on this forum. We give the attribute of infinite to God and yet this has an opposite, finite. Is it possible that th...

I'm not following your reasoning here, Ihavesayso. I don't understand how you jump to this conclusion--- if "nothing" exists for me...NOTHING EXISTS! How can we know what exists when we are not? Nothing existing for me is not the same as nothing existing period. I don't think we can know t...

"...Joy is the undertone... "I like this very much and think in the same way, the heart is the undertone of the human being. In an essay I read called mystic selflessness (can't remember the author)it spoke of reaching this point of Peace or Joy and it wasn't that the waves of life stopped...

I like what you said Gulliver. I watched The Peaceful Warrior the other night and the one thing that stuck with me the most is when the teacher tells the kid that he needs to stop listening to what everyone else says is truth. The kid has the great comeback of ...and what, listen to your answers? Th...

I found the quote on http://www.ccel.org/ccel/john_cross/dark_night.viii.v.html 2. But the question arises: Why is the Divine light (which as we say, illumines and purges the soul from its ignorances) here called by the soul a dark night? To this the answer is that for two reasons this Divine wisdom...

So...the times that are the darkest are acutally when the communion of our soul and God is the closest and most intense. This sure comfort me.

Strangly, I have questioned certain aspects of Mother Teresa's life after watching the movie of her life recently. This only came from this constant questioning I have for myself of what am I to be doing and how should I be in the world, which I still don't know for sure. The question I asked about ...

I like the quote a lot. Up 'till now, I would have read what Rumi was saying is that we have to uncover our true selves to find God, and once we find that God is there, then we can see God everywhere. I don't know how I see things right now, because I'm changing in many ways. When you speak of the s...
