Re: Out in the cold too long?
And that's why we don't plan to move again any tIme soon ... the only "easy" move we had was the move out to Kwajalein. We could only take 1000 lbs of stuff with us, so we got rid of almost everything we had. Of course, we accumulated more "stuff" out there, so we brought back 21...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
Ah, the mad enterprise known as MOVING. Can't tell you how often Peg and i have done that, and swron we'd never EVER do it again, only to do it again. You'll be out of "computer" touch with us during the transition, but we'll be in touch with you in the Spirit. If you need us you can undou...

Music as Word of God
I recently heard a minister who was waving a bible at us and insistingthat "this is the Word of God." My first thought was, but the bible itself says it is not the Word of God; it says, in John 1, that the Christ is the Word of God. Since then i've been thinking aobut the "Word of gGo...

Re: Here it is!
Stefan, i agree with what you posted in response to my observations. I gave, I am sure, the impression that i am embracing a sort of Christian science approach to the body -- it doesn't exist, so why bother with it? -- but I have to acknowledge by my own behaviour that I recognize the value of the b...

Re: Here it is!
ACIM's way of saying this is to say, "the body is a means of communication." And that it has no other function. Likewise, Ruby Nelson's passages concerning the "Grand Cosmic Being" that emerges when the body ceases to be necessary. And, of course, Jesus' own parables describing t...

Re: The Burden of Guilt (02/16/08) Third
"Actually, Biology is in many ways a very spiritual discipline; you cannot study biology without being astounded at the order and beauty of the manifestion." Absolutely! I find tremendous inspiration and spiritual resources in the writings of Loren Eiseley (particularly The Immense Journey...

Re: The Simple, and Impoverished Life (02/16/08) First
Inded, my grandmother kept chickens out in Land o' Lakes, FL, and had a rooster that had been trained in an Al Qaida camp somewhere in Afghanistan. One never dared to offend that bird! I can relate to the days of poverty as well. Peg and I counted coins and wrapped them to pay for food at times, and...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
I had one of those glimpses last evening. Pastor had asked me to stand in for him "teaching" the Monday night bible class, topic being mark 7. We were discussing "spiritual busywork," all the little "laws" and superstitions we manufacture to separate ourselves from ever...

Re: Letting go of God
"our concept of heaven is limited by our concept of heaven" ...and that about sums it up. So long as we are in bodies and perceiving via the operation of brains , our concept of everything is limited by our concept of everything. But that does not necessarily mean we are unable to "to...

A Poem
Dylan Thomas wrote that "the legend of Adam and Eve is never for a moment silent in my service." It haunts me, as well, and sometimes thinking about the implications of it, and of being "in the body" yearning for freedom from it, I recall this poem I wrote long ago. It still spea...

Re: Letting go of God
"How can I let go of what I AM? I cannot even let go of my concepts of God. All I can do is change them, for as soon as I "let go" of one, another promptly replaces it!" I guess that is what is called "the human condition"... a state of affairs that comes packaged with ...

Re: Maybe not, but then, maybe
I have no doubt that there are "triggers" that can crack open a door and stick a figurative foot in it, to allow Light to ocme through. Ritual can be one such trigger, which is no doubt why every spiritual discipline has developed ritual in some degree or another. A place can be such a tri...

Maybe not, but then, maybe
A strange sequence of events has me thinking (and that is always dangerous to those around me). Peg and I attend a United Methodist Church here, mostly because we really like the pastor.who came the same time as we did. He is not the usual stuffy clergyman type and can be engaged in meaningful conve...

Re: Full Circle?
I find gnosticism interesting as well. IMO gnosticism was/is a valid spiritual discipline, an understanding of God and His creation that is quiet compatible with the teachings of Jesus Himself. However, the early fathers, starting with Paul, saw it as a threat to their control of the developing chur...

Re: Full Circle?
Rather than "throwing out the God of concepts," I wonder if we are not simply becoming aware that there is no "God of concepts" at all. I see a rather remarkable development in human spirituality in western thought taking place today as The One reveals Him/Her/Itself as All That ...
